Apakah Tuhan Maha Pluralis?January 11, 2008 at 6:30 am | Posted in tuhan | 18 Comments
It all began with my decision to get to know Him with my way, not His way. and I tentatively concluded that God is nameless and that He never revealed Himself to us. We human beings only know His “created” and “earthly names” such as Yahweh, Allah, the Lord, Tuhan, Dei, God, Got, Tian, etc., while His true being remains hidden.
The logic: Everything that is named and conceptualized is created or found by anything that anticipates its existence. God is the First and the Last, Uncreated and therefore can never be named by anything that is before Him, since Nothing exists before and after Him!!
So, the question whether man made God or God made man is actually easy to answer: man did make or invent the word or the concept of “God”. But the true God could never be conceptualized or invented.
Does God reveal Himself in the Holy Books? Yes, He declares himself there, but not fully as none of the offered concepts/names in those books are universal. Yahweh is the tribal God of the Jews, Allah is the Arabic word for God and Jesus Christ is the Image of God through whom the Christians know Him. O, dear, I believe we’re all actually lost in translation!!
The question is: if we are worshiping God with different names, are we worshiping the same God? Is Allah God? Is God Allah? Is Tuhan God? Is God Tuhan? Is Jesus God? Is God Jesus? O, brothers, it’s absurd! If we name God, we’re trying to “control” and “own” God. God cannot be owned!
We only know Him through His nature, that God is forgiving, loving, kind, omnipotent, etc. I believe that most of us have the same notion of God: that He is the Creator of the universe and that He is extremely powerful!
I ask you, will God listen to the prayers of those who have an incorrect conception of God? If a man is so desperate and has nobody to turn to for help and decided to call the Supreme Being that is All-Powerful to help him, but he knows not of such concepts as God or Allah or Jesus or Tuhan or Yahweh or Gusti Allah or whatever, will God answer his prayer?
What if he thinks that God is the sun? “O, the Sun, the Creator of the universe. I need Your help!!” I imagine he’d pray in such a way. Of course, he never knows that the Sun, quoting Wikipedia, “is the star at the center of the Solar System. About 74% of the Sun’s mass is hydrogen, 25% is helium, and the rest is made up of trace quantities of heavier elements.” If he reads Wikipedia, that poor guy will argue, “that’s not the Sun, my God, as i know Him!”
